چکیده

In predictive 3-D mesh geometry coding, the position of each vertex is predicted from the previously coded neighboring vertices and the resultant prediction error vectors are coded. In this work, the prediction error vectors are represented in a local coordinate system in order to cluster them around a subset of a 2-D planar subspace and thereby increase block coding efficiency. Alphabet entropy constrained vector quantization (AECVQ) of Rao and Pearlman is preferred to the previously employed minimum distortion vector quantization (MDVQ) for block coding the prediction error vectors with high coding efficiency and low implementation complexity. Estimation and compensation of the bias in the parallelogram prediction rule and partial adaptation of the AECVQ codebook to the encoded vector source by normalization using source statistics, are the other salient features of the proposed coding system. Experimental results verify the advantage of the use of the local coordinate system over the global one. The visual error of the proposed coding system is lower than the predictive coding method of Touma and Gotsman especially at low rates, and lower than the spectral coding method of Karni and Gotsman at medium-to-high rates. 2007 Elsevier Inc. REVERSE LOOP SUBDIVISION FOR GEOMETRY AND TEXTURES

Reverse subdivision aims at constructing a coarser representation of an object given by a fine polygon mesh. In this paper, we first derive a mask for reverse Loop subdivision that can be applied to both regular and extraordinary vertices. The mask is parameterized, and thus can also be used in reversing variants of Loop subdivision, such as those proposed by Warren and Litke. We apply this mas...

Fast Vertex Transformation for 3D Rendering through Predictive Vector Quantization

Rendering geometrically detailed 3D polygonal models is both bandwidth and computationally intensive, requiring the transfer and processing of massive amounts of geometry data. In this work, we show vector quantization to be an effective vertex data compression scheme that in addition to reducing geometry bandwidth requirements, can be used to accelerate the computation of vertex transformation...

A Data Hiding Scheme based on Local Coordinate System for 3D Triangle Mesh Models

Recently there is increased interest in hiding data in 3-D objects due to the ever-increasing diffusion of such objects in many areas such as architecture design, entertainment and cultural heritage. A data hiding scheme for 3D triangle mesh models is proposed in this paper. Constructed by the vertex and its 1-ring neighbors, rather than by only its 1-ring neighbors, the local coordinate system...

Vertex Data Compression through Vector Quantization

Rendering geometrically detailed 3D models requires the transfer and processing of large amounts of triangle and vertex geometry data. Compressing the geometry bitstream can reduce bandwidth requirements and alleviate transmission bottlenecks. In this paper, we show vector quantization to be an effective compression technique for triangle mesh vertex data. We present predictive vector quantizat...

Photometry Data Coding for Three-Dimensional Mesh Models Using Connectivity and Geometry Information

In this paper, we propose new predictive coding schemes for photometry data of three-dimensional (3-D) mesh models as per-vertex binding. We exploit geometry and connectivity information to enhance coding efficiency of the color and normal vector data. For color coding, we predict the color of the current vertex by a weighted sum of colors of adjacent vertices considering angles between the cur...
